North America experiences a yearly monsoon weather system in late summer as moisture comes up from the west coast of Mexico and enters the southwestern U.S. The seasonal weather pattern brings both much of the region's precipitation but can also pose a threat in the form of flash flooding. The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission gathers data from these storms in order to better understand the precipitation processes happening within, which can help better forecast the breaks and surges in the monsoon. They have dealt with movements, have sketched large backgrounds, have traced causes, and have discussed the interrelation of social and economic forces and politics. All this has been directed to the large purpose of helping the student to understand American today in all its national characteristics and as part of world civilization as well...The literary style is exceptionally clear and crisp, and the whole approach...is thought producing. Learning Bird: https://www.learningbird.com Each year, it picked up, with the English, Spanish, French, and soon Dutch setting up more and more colonies. Three main groups came to settle in the colonies. 1. Economic immigrants, who were those looking for a better life. This group included the indentured servants, or people who paid for their passage to the New World by being forced to work for somebody for a certain number of years before getting their freedom. Most of the indentured servants were English farmers who had been pushed off their lands due to overcrowding. Up to ⅔ of European immigrants who came to the American colonies between the 1630s and the American Revolution were indentured servants. 2. Religious immigrants, who came to practice their religion freely. Included in this group were the famous Pilgrims who settled at Plymouth Colony. 3. Forced immigrants, who came over as slaves, mostly from Africa. It was the English immigrants who dominated in what later became the United States of America, probably because they came to live in larger numbers during the 1600s. From about 1630 to 1640 alone, around 20,000 Puritans crossed the Atlantic to live in New England. Even today, people with English ancestry arguably make up the largest group of Americans, though it is hard to know for sure. 8 out of the 10 most common last names in the United States are of English or British Isles origin.

I wanted to publish this video a long time ago, but better late than never! This video covers the basics on the North American Monsoon. DISCLAIMER: Some don't call it a true monsoon since wind directions do not reverse 180 degrees but conventionally it is known as a monsoon, and contributes to the bi-annual rainfall pattern of the Sonoran Desert. http://www.longplays.org Played by: HolyMeatball Binary Domain is a third-person shooter video game developed and published by Sega. It was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in February 2012 and Microsoft Windows in April 2012. The game is set in Tokyo, Japan, in the year 2080. It features innovative artificial intelligence technology. The game is set in a world where global warming had caused worldwide flooding, leaving much of the world uninhabitable. As a result, robots were used as the main labor force. The game features a consequence system, which decides how non-playable characters in the squad views and trusts the player in story mode. The game also features seven different multiplayer modes, with five classes being available for players to choose. It was designed by Toshihiro Nagoshi, who created the Yakuza video game series. The characters of Binary Domain were created with making realistic personalities and behavior in mind. The Consequence System was created to make the game as a competitive game in the third person shooter genre. The game received mixed reviews upon launch, with critics praising the game's story and consequence system. However, it received criticisms regarding its voice recognition system. The game sold only 20,000 copies in North America by April 2012.[/i] --- It's frustratingly unpolished and clunky. For every good and fresh idea it had, it has two hilariously bad design decisions. And the PC port is pretty bad too, what with non-existent settings and an absolutely abysmal mouse support, with one of the most awful forced accelerations I've ever seen. In spite of all that, I really like this game. Even though its pacing is all over the place and it has an overabundance of some of the poorest boss battle designs I've ever had to endure, overall it's a really charming, well-written shooter, and all the frustrations and raging one goes through is easily forgotten by the time the end credits roll.

This is the VOA Special English Technology Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, has released a list of proposed new domain names. A generic top-level domain, or gTLD, is the part of an Internet address after the dot -- like dot-com or dot-org. Currently there are 22 of these top-level domains in use. But there soon could be as many as a thousand or more. Rod Beckstrom is president of ICANN. He says the organization received almost 2,000 requests for new domains during the application period, which ended in May. He called the release a historic day for the Internet and for more than two billion people around the world who depend on it. He said the Internet is about to change forever. More than 900 of the requests for new generic top-level domains came from North America. Only seventeen were from Africa. Each application required a payment of $185,000. Some businesses like Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and Google applied for domain name extensions. Dot-app was one of the most sought after names. ICANN received 13 requests for the right to own that one. There were three applications for dot-dog, but none for dot-cat. Dot-love, dot-wedding, dot-sexy and dot-porn also made the list of proposed top-level domains. But Mr. Beckstrom says no names are guaranteed. These are just applications that are not yet approved, and some may not be. In his words, "None of them will enter the Internet until they have undergone a rigorous, objective and independent evaluation." ICANN began a 60-day comment period when it released the list in June. It also began a seven-month objection period. An ICANN spokesman said this is for anyone who wants to oppose an application for a domain name. The spokesman said objections will be decided in a "formal, independent dispute-resolution process." ICANN says it will begin processing the applications for new top-level domain names in batches of 500 at a time. The first group is not expected to begin operating until the first part of 2013. ICANN will approve no more than 1,000 new generic top-level domain names each year. ICANN apologized for accidentally publishing some of the contact details of those requesting new domains. ICANN admitted placing the mailing addresses and contact information for some individuals on its website. The group has since removed that information. For VOA Special English, I'm Carolyn Presutti. This is a November 30, 2017, FULL EPISODE of VICE News Tonight on HBO. During the dot-com era of the '90s, a simple domain name could sell for millions. Since then, search engines have made prime URLs less important, and now a new kind of domain name is up for grabs. VICE News talks to the man who believes emoji domains could be his second shot at an Internet gold rush. In June, members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) resigned to protest the Trump administration's inattention. In advance of World Aids Day, VICE News interviews one council member who resigned and one who remained. In November 2016, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that he was immediately banning the use of the two most common banknotes -- which meant taking 86 percent of the country’s currency out of circulation overnight. One year into the policy, VICE News went to India to see if Modi’s economic gamble was worth the risk. Slides from this presentation are available online at: http://northamerica.msteched.com/topic/details/2012/SIA317?mtag=youtube From Microsoft TechEd North America 2012: Virtualization is a key technology underpinning and enabling both private- and public-cloud deployments. In this session, we discuss the technical details surrounding domain controller virtualization safeguards in Windows Server 2012 that prevent certain Hypervisor capabilities (when used with virtualized domain controllers) from disrupting the Active Directory system and potentially introducing a permanently divergent state. Beyond simply making virtualized domain controllers safer, Windows Server 2012 also more fully exploits the capabilities of Hypervisors by enabling the rapid deployment of replica DCs through virtual disk cloning—cloning largely requiring only a simple file-copy of the virtual domain controller's virtual disk file (VHD) and the creation of basic configuration instructions. The ability to clone virtual domain controllers takes Active Directory's support for virtualization to the next level enabling rapid deployment of greenfield Active Directory environments and significantly reducing scale-out and disaster recovery time.
